What the work involves.
A fortified roof is built to hold up better in severe weather than a standard replacement. It concentrates on the parts of a roof that fail first in high wind and heavy rain: how the decking is fastened, how the edges are protected, and what keeps water out if shingles are torn away.
Zeus Exteriors is listed by GAF as certified to install a FORTIFIED Roof. The approach comes from IBHS, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, whose FORTIFIED Roof standard is based on wind and rain testing. Its main ideas are straightforward. Decking is re-nailed with ring-shank nails at closer spacing so the deck resists being pulled off the rafters. The seams in the deck are sealed so that if shingles blow off, wind-driven rain cannot run through the joints. Roof edges get upgraded drip edge and edge metal, because wind uplift starts at the edges and corners. Shingles are rated for high wind, and impact-resistant shingles are an option where hail is the concern.
How It Works
Free nine-point inspection
Valleys, ridge, shingles, chimney, ventilation, gutters, drip edge and flashing, with drone photos sent to you.
Property protected
Tarps over pools and bushes, and cover for windows, garage doors and AC units before the tear-off.
Down to the decking
Old shingles and underlayment come off, the decking is inspected, and bad boards are replaced.
Rebuilt and cleaned up
Drip edge, ice and water membrane, synthetic underlayment, GAF Timberline HDZ and Z-Ridge, ventilation corrected, and a roller magnet over the yard.
The Difference
What to know before you decide.
In Dallas-Fort Worth that combination matters. Spring storms bring hail and straight-line winds together, and much of the water damage after a storm comes from rain getting through a roof that has lost shingles. A sealed deck buys time in exactly that situation.
A fortified roof starts the same way as our standard replacement: a free inspection, a full tear-off to the decking and replacement of any damaged boards. Instead of stopping at a standard installation, the deck attachment, seam sealing and edge details are brought up to the stronger standard before the underlayment and shingles go on.
Cost is the obvious question. A fortified roof costs more than a standard replacement, because it takes more material and more labor at the deck. Some insurers offer premium discounts for roofs built to a recognized fortified standard, and in some states a designation is required to qualify, so ask your agent what your carrier offers before you decide. If you have had storm damage before, or you plan to stay in the house for a long time, it is worth pricing both options side by side.
Not every house or budget needs one. At the inspection we explain the options for your roof and price a standard replacement and a stronger system, and the choice is yours.

Fortified Roofing, answered.
What makes a roof “fortified”?
Stronger decking attachment, sealed deck seams, better edge protection and high-wind shingles. The goal is a roof that keeps its deck and keeps water out when storms hit.
Does a fortified roof lower my insurance?
Some insurers discount premiums for roofs built to a recognized fortified standard, and requirements vary by carrier. Ask your agent what yours offers and what documentation they need.
How much more does it cost?
More than a standard replacement, because of the added deck work and materials. We price both at the inspection so you can compare.
Can a fortified roof include impact-resistant shingles?
Yes. Impact-resistant shingles are a common addition in North Texas, where hail and wind arrive together.
